Curriculum

Our Early Years Practitioners provide  interesting experiences for the children to access through the day, taking into account children's interests and individual needs, including children who have particular needs and disabilities that may need additional support.

Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework is the curriculum that we follow.

There are 7 areas of learning and development.

PRIME areas focus on Personal, Social & Emotional development, Communication & Language & Physical Development.

SPECIFIC areas focus on Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts & Design.

These 7 areas of learning are underpinned by the Characteristics of Learning - Playing & Exploration, Active Learning and Creating & Thinking Critically.

Within the children's day we will assess and observe their play focussing on the 7 areas of learning.

The Curiosity Approach

We follow the Curiosity Approach within our learning environment that allows the children to be curious learners, use open ended resources and achieve their next steps.

The Curiosity Approach is central to the Reggio Emilia Approach.  It is a respect for children's natural curiosity and creativity and their ability to produce powerful theories from around the world and how their world works.

We believe in using authentic resources that capture the children and their educators imagination.  Resources that offer value to play, bringing a mixture of texture and stimulus that no plastic cartoon embossed tea set can!

To enhance the opportunities for the children we use natural materials and everyday equipment like pottery, telephone, cutlery and fresh produce.

Our Planning in the Nursery

We plan for our continuous provision and set up invitations of learning based on children's interests and develop areas within the nursery throughout the year, focussing on children's interests and other special events, such as festivals.

Our observations, interactions and the outcomes are recorded afterwards using our online learning journey.

We have focus children in the week and include children's interests from home in our planning.

We do have elements of planning in moment where spontaneous planning is observed and continuous learning is enhanced from this.
